Truth and Reconciliation is more than words. They must be equaled with action. As a means of acknowledging the land and people where we are privileged to live and work, we sought out the wisdom of  Lynn Gehl, an Algonquin Anishinaabe-kwe from the Ottawa River Valley. Burning Passions Theatre Auditions in Ottawa!

Burning Passions Theatre, an Ottawa-based professional theatre company founded over 27 years ago, is holding General Auditions in May in Ottawa for both Equity and non-Equity performers.

General auditions are a way for artists - both established and emerging - to meet our artistic team and for us to get to know more about you. They are an opportunity for us to encounter new voices and connect with those interested in participating in our work. For Equity members, we will be contracting under the Dance, Opera, Theatre Policy.

Auditions will take place in a space that is physically accessible and scent-free. If you require specific accommodations, please indicate them in your submission and we will do our best to arrange them.

    Ethnocultural mandate or casting statement:

Burning Passions Theatre is committed to fostering an equitable, inclusive and safe environment at every level of our work. We actively welcome submissions from artists who self-identify as Indigenous, Black, racialized, 2SLGBTQIA+, Deaf, disabled, neurodivergent, newcomer, or from any other equity-seeking community that has been historically under-represented in Canadian theatre.

    TO SUBMIT:

Please email a headshot and resume to info@bptheatre.ca. Label the subject line of your submission as follows: [BURNING PASSIONS THEATRE GENERAL AUDITION - NAME]. Please also indicate a preferred time and date for your audition. See audition times and dates below. No phone calls please. We will send you the location and directions with an email inviting you to audition. No phone calls please.

    Submission Deadline: 5pm – Friday, May 16th

Those invited to audition will be asked to prepare ONE monologue of your choosing (either classical or contemporary). Monologues must be selected from a published theatrical work. Film/television excerpts and self-written material are not preferred.

Auditions will be held on the following dates and times: May 24, 2025 from 11am to 3pm; May 25, 2025 from 4pm to 7pm.

    Classic Theatre Festival

Special thanks to Abbotsford House of Ottawa for providing a warm welcome and lovely audience for "A Circle of Time”, Burning Passions Theatre’s second “Seniors Sharing Stories” theatrical presentation, developed in partnership with the CRC Rideau-Rockcliffe CRC. It’s rare when the lives of seniors are featured in the news or in entertainment, so for two years, this project has brought together community elders to create new works expressing their hopes, dreams, and challenges as they enter the fabled “third chapter” of their lives.

The new play, written and directed by Laurel Smith, explores the lives of those entering retirement as part of the sandwich generation, women juggling the needs of adult children and elderly parents while trying to chart a course for their own lives in the post 9-to-5 world.

The play features with Deborah Bolton, Janet Bowes, Sheila Knight, Angela Pelly and Tammy Southin, with expert production assistance from Harley Wegner. Thanks to the New Horizons for Seniors program.
