Happy World Theatre Day! Today is a perfect opportunity to announce that the Classic Theatre Festival will return to live performances this summer at the historic Arts Court Theatre in downtown Ottawa.
We are thrilled to announce we are staging a Tony Award winner for Best Play. Jan de Hartog’s The Fourposter is an enduring, comedic chronicle of a marriage during an era of world-shaking technological and social changes. This beloved Broadway classic – which follows a couple through 35 years of marriage, from a nervous wedding night through to childbirth and parenting, mid-life crisis, empty nesting and the realities of aging – is, in the words of Artistic Producer Laurel Smith, “both a tender and at times incredibly funny exploration of an institution that most of us participate in and complain about a lot, but which ultimately represents the foundation for so many adult lives.”
The play will run August 5 to 28, Wed. to Sun. matinees at 1:30 pm, with 7:30 pm shows Wed., Thurs. and Sat.
It will also feature the return of Pre-show Talks at the half hour, informative and entertaining lobby displays, the beloved loonie/toonie book sale, the 50/50 draw to support our Save-a-Seat program to make theatre acccessible to all community members regardless of income, and a “Summer Theatre in the City” vibe that brings back professonal theatre with a community welcome.
The Festival will be exceeding public health guidelines for pandemic protection, including masking for all staff and audience members.
